Monett Police are investigating a burglary at the batting cages at North Park.
According to the police report, intruders on either Tuesday or Wednesday forced their way into the batting cage building by prying off plywood covering a broken window from a previous burglary. A second piece of wood was pried off following entry.
Approximately 20 aluminum baseball bats and 15 cans of soda pop were taken.
An unsuccessful burglary attempt had occurred on March 19.
"This is extremely discouraging," said Kirk Verhoff, president of the Monett Youth Baseball and Softball League. "The league does not have the money to keep making repairs. This is not a money-making operation. It's an opportunity for young people to practice. We have a building that has to be locked up. We ended the season on this note and now, at the beginning of the new season, it's happening again."
Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tips line at 354-TIPS.
