Hanson succeeds Dr. John Jungmann, who accepted a position as deputy superintendent with the Liberty School District, beginning on July 1. Jungmann served as the Monett superintendent since the 2008-09 school year.
"The board is thrilled to announce that Mr. Hanson will be moving into this position," said Board of Education President Dr. J.D. Roberts. "Monett has a long tradition of strong leadership at the superintendent position, and we know with the leadership skills he has exhibited in his last two years that this tradition will continue into the future."
Hanson brings to the position 12 years of administrative experience to the position. His most recent posts with Monett has been as assistant superintendent of educational services during the current year and director of the Southwest Area Career Center during the 2010-11 school year.
Hanson's previous experiences include 10 years of administrative work in the Cassville R-4 School District as high school principal and assistant high school principal. He previously taught 15 years at the high school and junior high levels.
"Monett R-1 has established itself as a leader in preparing students for success in the 21st century, and I feel honored that the board has entrusted me with the opportunity to serve this community and its student body in this position," said Hanson.
"The collaborative culture and commitment to providing a 'student focused, future driven' education for all of our kids that has been created by previous leadership has set the stage for an exciting future for our district," Hanson continued. "I look forward to partnering with the board, administration, faculty, staff, and community to continue the tradition of high expectations and excellence that our students deserve."
Hanson was selected from a field of 14 applicants for the position. The board screened the applicant pool and selected three finalists to interview on Tuesday evening of this week.
"The board was unanimous in their selection of Mr. Hanson from the field of applicants," said Roberts. "Although it was a competitive applicant pool, Mr. Hanson quickly rose to the top due to his passion for continuous improvement and vision for how to continue to move our district forward.
"The board is also happy that the promotion of Mr. Hanson will allow for continuity within our system," Roberts continued. "We feel like there are a lot of great things happening in Monett R-1 right now, and Mr. Hanson will offer us the best chance to continue on the course that has been charted."
Hanson has accepted a two-year contract for the position. The search for a new assistant superintendent to fill the vacancy created by this promotion will begin immediately.
"In addition, the ability to promote from within will also allow Mr. Hanson to work closely with Dr. Jungmann over the next few months, which we believe will help make this a smooth and seamless transition," added Roberts.
"I, too, am very enthusiastic about the board's decision to promote Brad into this position," said Jungmann. "He has proven himself as a great educational leader and worked collaboratively with our administrative team to improve our school system in his current role as assistant superintendent. The district is fortunate to have him assuming this post and will be in great hands under his leadership. I look forward to working with him in this transition."
