The 14th annual Curves for Women food drive kicked off in March with numerous incentives offered to members and the community to donate food and cash to benefit area food banks.

According to Mia Land, owner of Curves in Monett, the theme this year is "Cruising for a Cause."

Donations consist of non-perishable food items and cash donations. From March 12 through March 31, Curves will waive the membership fee for new members who donate.

"Curves members are on teams, and they gain points for food items," said Land. "There are different competitions between the teams and they will receive points for workouts, food, and inviting friends."

In addition to the food and monetary donations that each gym collects, Curves International is offering gyms the opportunity to win cash prizes for local food banks. Prizes will be awarded to clubs with the most food collected and beat the 2011 donation level by the largest amount. Curves clubs have donated more than 61 million pounds of food in the United States and Canada since 2004.

"The donations collected at Curves in Monett will go toward the Community Kitchen and Loaves and Fishes," said Land. "Of course, the goal is to be more successful than last year. I have a lot of motivated people. Last year we collected 3,000 pounds of food."
