Two hurt in creashes

A Mt. Vernon man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday on Highway 160 about four miles north of Reeds Spring.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of a 2005 Volvo, Jackie J. Warren, 76, of Mt. Vernon, stopped to make a left turn and was passed by a 2012 Nissan, driven by Jennifer D. Griffin, 39, of Springfield. The Griffin vehicle clipped the Volvo, causing the Nissan to roll.

Griffin was airlifted to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with serious injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt; Warren was.

Other wrecks

* A Bentonville, Ark., man was injured in a two-vehicle wreck that took place at 7:12 a.m. on Wednesday on Highway 37 about two miles north of Purdy. The wreck occurred when the driver of a 1994 Saturn, Kenneth C. Swolley, 27, of Exeter, ran off the roadway, returned to the pavement and struck a 2000 Peterbilt, driven by Darren S. Smith, 41, of Bentonville, Ark., head on. Smith was transported to Cox Monett Hospital with minor injuries. Both parties were wearing a seat belt.

* An Aurora man was injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 8 a.m. on Wednesday at Highway 39 and County Road 2230. The driver of a 2005 Dodge Ram, Jean A. Hicks, 49, of Aurora, failed to yield and struck a 1993 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Justin M. Shields, 33, of Aurora. The Suburban ran off the roadway and overturned. Shields was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with moderate injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt; Hicks was.
