Perry Renfro

Perry D. Renfro, age 81, of Monett, Mo., passed from this life on Saturday evening, March 3, 2012 at the Lacoba Nursing Center in Monett following a short illness.

Perry was born on Nov. 4, 1930 in Greenfield, Mo., the son of the late Perry Clay Renfro and Carrie (Bird) Renfro. Four years after he graduated from Greenfield High School, Perry served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 27, 1954. In 1956, Perry moved to Monett to raise his family. He had worked as a barber at a local barber shop during the 1960's. He later had been a truck driver for Tyson Foods.

Perry was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, a member of the American Legion Post #91 and had served as the McCormick St. John's Cemetery Sexton for many years.

On Feb. 16, 1952 in Lockwood, Mo., Perry married Ruth Evelyn Massmann. She preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 1999. He was also preceded in death by three grandsons: Joshua and Christopher Hirsch and Brook Renfro; two brothers: Leon and Raymond Renfro; and two sisters: Mary Renfro and Berthena Meyers.

Perry is survived by his two sons: Gorden Renfro and wife, Lezlie, of Monett; and Paul Renfro and wife, Vicki, of Carterville, Mo.; three daughters: Joyce Hirsch and husband, Jerry, of Pierce City, Mo.; Janice Burgess and husband, Jack, of Aurora, Mo.; and Nancy Guinn and husband, Kevin, of Sarcoxie, Mo.; two sisters: Sibby Middleton, of Forsyth, Mo.; and Buena Karleskint, of Ft. Scott, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and many dear friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Renfro will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett. Reverend Richard Cody will officiate.

Interment will be in the McCormick St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to the McCormick St. John's Cemetery fund in care of the funeral home.
