The Monett High School speech and debate team competed at the Lamar Speech Tournament on Feb. 18.
The following students advanced to finals and placed: Alex Schmitt, sixth, extemporaneous; Baily Harris and Elizabeth Hurst, sixth, duet; Kendra DePriest and Zeina Masri, fifth, improvised duet; Kaylee Barnes, fifth, dramatic interpretation; Stephanie Schumacher and Sarah Burton, fourth, improvised duet; Ronnie Hearn, third, storytelling; Stephanie Schumacher, second, storytelling; Zeina Masri, first, dramatic interpretation; Garrett Maxey, first, humorous interpretation, and first, storytelling; and Matt Murphy and Andrew Gilliam, first, duet, and first, improvised duet.
The team placed first in sweepstakes.
The Monett High School speech and debate team competed at the last open invitational tournament on Feb. 24 and 25 at Neosho High School.
The following students advanced to the the semi-finals: Jonah Ragsdale, domestic extemporaneous; Zeina Masri, humorous and dramatic interpretation; Ronnie Hearn and Stephanie Schumacher, storytelling; and Laramie Ellis and Kale Turner, congress.
The following students advanced to the finals and placed: Connor Marshall, eighth place, congress; Garrett Maxey, fifth, storytelling; Jonah Ragsdale, third, Lincoln-Douglas debate; and Bryce Isbell and Reece Johnson, first, public forum debate.
