MHS speech and debate team competes at Joplin tournment

The Monett High School speech and debate squad competed at the Heart of the Ozarks Invitational in Joplin on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11. Monett High School placed third out of 19 schools.

The following students advanced to finals and placed: Andrew Brown and Sarah Burton, sixth, duo interpretation; Wesley Kilgore, Matt Bowsher and Kyler Simkins, sixth, group improv; Tania Contreras, sixth, oratory; Kale Turner, sixth, radio speaking; Ronnie Hearn, fifth, storytelling; Jonah Ragsdale, fifth, oratory; Ashleigh Hill, fourth, storytelling; Samuel Martinez, fourth, prose and poetry; Emma Verstraete, fourth, US extemporaneous; Haley Henry, Kiersten Harper and Taylor Renfro, fourth, group improv; Jonah Ragsdale, fourth, varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate; Andrew Rausch and Katelyn Morrison, fourth, novice public forum debate; Tarek Masri and Tania Contreras, fourth, novice public forum debate; Hayley Long and Anna Cloud, fourth, varsity public forum debate; Tom Younker, third, novice Lincoln-Douglas debate; Garrett Maxey, second, humorous interpretation; Andrew Brown, second, storytelling; Laramie Ellis, second, prose and poetry; Kale Turner and Emma Verstraete, second, varsity public forum debate; Haley Henry, first, storytelling; Ryan Saunders, Anna Cloud and Gary Cook, first, group improv; and Haley Henry and Hunter Williams, first, novice public forum.
