The red barn on South Highway 37 by the entrance to the new First Baptist Church in Monett is coming down this week.

The church had used the building for activities. According to contractor Charlie Huntress, the building is being disassembled at no cost to the church by an Amish group to be recycled by a furniture maker in Rogersville.

The church purchased the property from Robert and Charlotte Bounous.

Robert Bounous, who grew up on the farm, said the barn was over 100 years old. Daniel Bounous, Robert's great-grandfather, who had the barn built, had been one of the original members of Monett's Waldensian community, moving to Monett from Italy.
