February 23, 2012

Dear Monett R-1 Board of Education:

I respectfully submit my resignation from the position of Superintendent of the Monett School District effective June 30th, 2012, for your consideration. This decision has not been an easy one for our family, but we feel led to accept an offer from the Liberty School District to serve as Deputy Superintendent.

I greatly appreciate the opportunities that Monett R-1 and the Monett community have provided for me as an educator and for my family during the last ten years. It is with mixed emotions that I leave a community and school district that I have grown to love over the last ten years of service.

I thank the present and past Monett R-1 administrative team, faculty, and staff for their support of me as superintendent and, most of all, for their incredible commitment to the students in our schools. I feel blessed to have worked with a team of educators who care deeply about student success and who are willing to make the changes and sacrifices necessary to meet the needs of our student body.

Additionally, I thank the Monett R-1 Board of Education for the culture of high expectations that they set for our entire system. The board successfully holds the professionals in our system accountable for results and at the same time is incredibly supportive and committed to making the district a great place to work. They serve as a model of effective governance for other districts across the state.

Finally, I thank the students in each of our schools for coming to school everyday and taking part in the educational process. The performance of our kids continues to rise due to their willingness to partner with our faculty and to commit to improving everyday. I hope that the students of Monett R-1 have benefited from our work to create a more "student-focused, future-driven" culture that is changing the way we reach every child in our classrooms.

As I leave, I wish Monett R-1 the best and offer my assistance to the board and community with the transition to new leadership. I feel confident that Monett R-1 will remain a progressive educational leader in our area and state and look forward to watching the district continue to grow and improve in the future.

Sincerely,

John E. Jungmann, Ed. D.
