The Monett Cubs advanced four wrestlers into matches today at the state wrestling tournament in Columbia.
"We didn't get the results we were looking for but we're still alive," said Monett coach Daryl Bradley. "The boys worked hard, and we need to get ready for today's matches."
Chase Brennan pinned AJ Edwards, of Excelsior Springs, in 47 seconds. Brennan faces Richard House, of Centralia, in the quarterfinals today.
Kedrick Brink lost by a technical fall, 15-0, to Cody Hummer, of Savannah. Brink prevailed in an elimination wrestleback with a 15-0 technical fall victory over Kiowa Wright, of Owensville. Brink's next opponent is to be determined.
Chris Renteria pinned David Weich, of Owensville, in 3:15. Renteria will face Ryan Burkhart, of Cameron, today in the quarterfinals.
Devon Overall fell 7-1 to Cody Stevens, of Dexter. Overall lost 6-1 to Kevin Sugden, of Cameron, in a wrestleback elimination match.
Matt Wentz was pinned in 1:41 by Trever Foltz, of Notre Dame Cape Girardeau. Wentz pinned Preston Airington, of Oak Grove, in 1:49. Wentz's next opponent is to be determined.
