Purdy's Addy Roller scored 44 points and broke a state record, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Eagles fell 65-62 to Fair Grove in overtime Thursday night.
Roller set the all-time state mark for 3-pointers made with 287 during her four-year career at Purdy. She entered the game needing four to earn the record. Roller finished six of 10 from behind the arc to break Michelle Holman's achievement of 285.
"Addy is a special talent," said Purdy coach Grant Young. "She helps to raise the level of the team's play. This record is a testament to all the hard work, effort and countless hours practicing on her own time. I am happy for her."
Fair Grove led 16-9 after the first quarter, but Purdy rallied to outscore Fair Grove 18-11 in the second period to go into halftime tied at 27-27.
The quarter-by-quarter scores were identical in the second half with each team scoring 17 points and 13 points in the third and fourth quarters respectively.
On a night when Roller set the state record for 3-pointers, it was Fair Grove's Katie Wood who connected from downtown with 30 seconds left in overtime to lift Fair Grove to the victory.
Morgan Kinsinger led Fair Grove with 23 points, and DeAmbra Pilkinton added 19 points.
Scoring for Purdy were: Roller, 44; Mattie White, 7; Rachael Neill, 6; and Taylor Moller, 5.
Purdy hosts Exeter tonight. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
