The Pierce City Lady Eagles couldn't warm up from a cold start and fell 59-40 to Crane in the championship of the McAuley Lady Warrior Classic on Saturday.

"We couldn't make buckets tonight," said Pierce City coach Tiffany Dirks. "We never got into sync and had no inside game at all. We missed layups, treys and free throws. Crane started hitting 3-pointers in the second half, and the game got away from us."

The Lady Eagles trailed 11-8 after one quarter of play and 22-15 at halftime. Pierce City was a dismal three of 11 at the charity stripe in the first half and finished the game 11 of 22.

Foul trouble also plagued the Lady Eagles with the team's leading scorers Krishna Merriman and Kaelyn Osborn picking up three fouls in the first half and both eventually fouling out in the second half.

"Credit Crane," said Dirks. "They came out and got to the loose balls and rebounds. It wasn't our night, and we just tip our hat and move on."

The Lady Pirates opened up the third period with a 10-0 run and led 37-23 heading into the fourth period.

Scoring for Pierce City were: Osborn, 14; Merriman, 10; Megan Golubski and Bailee Hayward, 6 each; and Becca Hatfield and Christine Younker, 2 apiece.

The Lady Eagles hosts Sarcoxie on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
