The City of Verona is still looking for a police chief.
Aldermen reviewed approximately 30 applications following a recent job posting for the position, with many of those coming from out of state. Council members chose five applicants to interview for the post but ultimately decided to continue their search.
Aldermen also approved moving Rick Wright, animal control and maintenance, from part-time to full time status. Wright will receive full benefits in addition to the $9-per-hour wage for a 32-hour work week.
Aldermen reviewed the 2011-12 budget and approved making repairs to the city's police car during the current budget year. Cost to replace the transmission is estimated at $1,600.
Council members also approved the purchase of a fire hose reducer for the fire department at a cost of $145.
Aldermen will review the 2012-13 budget proposal on Feb. 28 after preliminary tax receipts have been determined.
