Monett High School recently recognized 2010 graduate and current Northern Illinois University wrestler Ethan Davis for his selection as the 2010--11 National Wrestling Coaches Association Missouri Outstanding Wrestler.
The award is presented annually and voted on by wrestling coaches statewide.
While at Monett, Davis was a four-time state finalist, winning three state championships and compiling a 171-2 overall high school records. Davis was also a four-time high school All-American and was named to USA Wrestling Magazine's Scholastic All--American Team.
"It was a privilege and and honor to coach Ethan," said Monett wrestling coach Daryl Bradley. "This is the first time a Monett wrestler has received this award. When I think of the contributions that Ethan has made to our program, I think of several of our youth wrestlers who had an opportunity to be around to witness the domination that Ethan had on his opponents.
"He is arguably one of the best wrestlers that southwest Missouri will ever see," continued Bradley. "I believe that our future wrestlers will attempt to follow in his footsteps."
Davis is redshirting this year and recently won the Pointer Open and finished in sixth place at the Michigan State Open.
Davis is the son of Dep and Latricia Davis, of Monett.
