A Shell Knob man was killed in a single vehicle crash at 7:20 p.m. on Jan. 26 in Stone County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Gary W. Barta, 63, was driving north on Highway 39, a half mile north of Carr Lane, when his Ford 2008 F150 pickup went off the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned. Barta, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Stone County Coroner John Cunnyngham.
This was the fifth fatality of 2012 in the Highway Patrol's Troop D.
A Rocky Comfort man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 71 about two miles north of Neosho at 6:25 p.m. on Sunday.
The crash took place when the 1998 Oldsmobile, driven by Thomas E. Easton, 35, of Rocky Comfort, was struck from behind by a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, driven by Ricky L. Jones, 22, of Neosho. The Easton vehicle then ran off the roadway and overturned.
Easton was taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin with serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. A passenger in the vehicle, Brian T. Easton, 12, was also taken to Freeman West Hospital with minor injuries.
