The 10th annual Dining for Diabetes, held Saturday night at the National Guard Armory in Pierce City, was a Hollywood extravaganza as people from all over the bi-county area joined together in a fundraising effort to support diabetes education efforts.

At this year's event, Nancy Ridgley, Cox Monett Hospital's certified diabetes educator and director of community wellness, was honored for her continuous efforts in raising diabetes awareness and education for those in the area.

"In 10 years, she has helped raise over $150,000 for the Cox Monett Diabetes Education Fund," said Lisa Alexander, president of the CoxHealth Foundation. "A majority of this has been on her own time."

All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit those residents in Barry and Lawrence counties with diabetes who do not have the money to pay for education classes to help them manage their ddiabetes or the medicine they need to control it.

Others honored for 10 years of volunteering with Dining for Diabetes included: Kevin Williams, David and Lou Honeycutt, Marty Scabarozi, Mary Stluka, Wayne and Sharon Ridenour and Mary K. Scott.

This year's event raised approximately $27,000, an increase over previous years.

"Last year and the year before we raised about $22,000," Alexander said. "We average about 430 attendees each year. It's always a sell out crowd!"

The effort raised $25,350 in sponsor donations and $8,335 from the combined silent and live auction.

Servers attired as Hollywood stars served the chicken and vegetable dinner to over 400 attendees. The meal was prepared by the hospital's Food and Nutrition Services Department.
