Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay has released information on methamphetamine-related crimes that occurred from July through December of 2011.
In that six-month period, a total of 10 meth labs were seized and five clandestine dump sites were cleared. A total of 42 arrests were made, and a breakdown of charges is as follows: 22, possession of meth; 6, distributing meth; 12, manufacturing meth; and 2, attempting to make meth. One case involved the seizure of chemicals, glassware and equipment used to make meth.
"The position held by the officer that investigated all meth-related activities was funded through a grant from the Missouri Sheriffs Methamphetamine Relief Task Force (MoSMART)," DeLay said. "That funding has not been re-allocated for any agency in the state of Missouri for this year.
"A request was made for the position to be added to the county budget, but that request was also denied," DeLay continued. "We are actively seeking funding to bring the position back."
