Verona claims fifth at Marionville

The Verona Lady Wildcats earned a 59-39 win over Billings to claim fifth place in Marionville Lady Comet Classic on Saturday.

"I thought we did a good job of coming together for the victory," said Verona coach Ryan Yates. "I think we are coming together as a team and playing our best ball of the season. Jessica (Youngberg) had a big game for us tonight. It was a team win."

Verona led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter and 31-18 at halftime.

Billings closed the gap to 10 points in the third quarter when Verona's Tristan Carrasquillo picked up her fourth foul.

Billings closed the gap to four points twice in the third period but Youngberg scored 10 points to keep Billings at bay.

The Wildcats led 37-29 at the end of the third period.

Carrasquillo checked into the game with five minutes remaining and helped lead Verona on a 20-8 run to ice the contest.

Scoring for Verona were: Carrasquillo, 24; Youngberg, 13; Shelby Barsotti, 9; Taylor Pinkly, 6; Amanda Mullen; and Leann Hesemann, 2.

Verona will be in action on Thursday hosting Exeter. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
