Clarence Jackson Wendt, age 78, of Monett, known to most as "Jack" or "Papa," passed from this life to the next on Jan. 17, 2012 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. due to complications from surgery.

Jack was born on Nov. 16, 1933 to the late Clifton Ulysses Wendt and late Goldie Irene Wendt.

Jack graduated from Spickard High School and attended two years of college through the Army.

He was united in marriage to Lynda Lee Urton on April 14, 1969. She survives. Jack was a retired mechanic at Friendly Tire, but was still employed as a night watchman at Friend Tire. He worked at Friend Tire in Chillicothe, Mo., but was transferred to Monett, Mo. in 1979. He served in the Army for four years and was in the Reserves. He was employed at Friend Tire for more than three decades. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved to read, garden, and to be outdoors.

Jack is survived by his wife, Lynda Wendt, of Monett, Mo. He is also survived by five children: Bobby Matheson and wife, Donna, of Goodman, Mo.; Raymond Warner and wife, Barb, of Union, Mo.; Mendy Pearce and husband, Stan, of Monett, Mo.; Jackie Williams and friend, Mike, of Monett, Mo.; and Shelli Reynolds, of Monett, Mo. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Randy Durbin, Clayton Matheson and wife, Erica, Tatum Keister, Mandi Matheson, Zachary Williams, Elizabeth Rogers and husband, Jared, Lyndsi Mercer and husband, Nathan, Shawnna Williams and fiancÚ, Caleb Lines, Kodi Pearce, Isaiah Williams, Brittany Durbin, Eli Reynolds, and Peyton Reynolds. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Alex Durbin, Cassidy Heilig, Mariah Rogers, Jax Matheson, and Coy Matheson. Jack is also survived by one brother, Bill Wendt and wife, Carolyn, of Chillicothe, Mo. and one sister, Connie Byers and husband, Rick, of Princeton, Mo. He is also survived by a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifton and Goldie Wendt, and two sisters, Anna Mae Wendt and Mary Ellen Cottrell.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Chapel in Monett.
