Aurora dispatches Monett Lady Cubs

The Aurora Lady Houn' Dawgs ended the Monett Lady Cubs two-game winning streak with a 61-23 victory Thursday night.

After a rough start to the season, the Lady Cubs earned victories over Diamond and Carl Junction and were seeking to improve to 2-0 in Big 8 conference play when they traveled to Aurora.

The Lady Houns' had other intentions.

Using full-court pressure to harass the Lady Cubs, Aurora built a 13-2 lead in the first quarter. The pressure was kicked up a notch in the second period with the Lady Houn' Dawgs outscoring Monett 27 to 12 to take a 40-14 advantage into halftime

Jenna Chadd led Aurora with 16 points. Jessica Smith kicked in 10.

Scoring for Monett were: Abby Krueger, 5; Jessica Schmidt and Allie Krueger, 4 each; Hunter Glouse and Brooke Madison, 3 each; and Faith Schmidt and Kelsey Wiseman, 2 apiece.

Monett will be in action against Ash Grove on Monday in the Marionville Lady Comet Classic. The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
