Construction on the new Monett Area YMCA at Monett's South Park is continuing on schedule. "Finishing pieces are being put on the steel structure," said Gordon Brown, executive director for the Monett Area YMCA. "The main competitive pool has been excavated and is being prepared to have its floor poured. The exterior walls will be closed in soon." The $11 million facility is being built by Wirt-Flavin Construction Company on the southwest corner of the park and the 2.47 acres that was acquired from the Jones/Kleiboeker family. Opening of the new, state-of-the-art facility is planned for fall 2012. [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff] [Order this photo]

It will be a great asset for the Monett community, however, I wonder if this old senior citizen can afford the annual membership dues. Has a fee schedule been established yet?

Response by Lisa Schlichtman:
The YMCA works with its members and there are sliding fees based on income available.
