MHS speech and debate team competes in CJ tournament

The Monett High School speech and debate team competed at the Carl Junction novice/second year sophomore speech and debate tournament on Dec. 16 and 17, 2011.

The following students advanced to semi-finals: Kenny Mobley, Tanesha Eden, Bailey Harris and Brianna Salas, prose; Sam Martinez, dramatic interpretation; Hunter Williams and Tom Younker, oratory; Ronnie Hearn and Angelina Ortez, storytelling; Jarrett Johnson and Tarek Masri, extemporaneous speaking; Taylor Renfro, humorous interpretation; Kiersten Harper, poetry; Kara Hopkins and Sabrina Bennett and Baily Harris and Jade Ingle, duet acting; and Polet Rodriguez, radio.

The following students advanced to finals and placed: Connor Marshall, eighth place, congress; Andrew Rausch, seventh place, student congress; Jonah Ragsdale, sixth place, extemporaneous and third place, oratory; Hayley Long, sixth place, oratory; Taylor Renfro and Tanesha Eden, fifth place, duet; Kyler Simkins, fourth place, Lincoln Douglas debate; Jarrett Johnson, fourth place, radio speaking; Kara Hopkins, fourth place, prose; Kiersten Harper, third place, dramatic interpretation; Connor Marshall, third place, Lincoln Douglas debate; Elizabeth Hurst, second place, storytelling; and Sabrina Bennett, second place, dramatic interpretation.

Overall, the Monett High School squad placed second in sweepstakes out of 15 schools.
