Award to honor good neighbors

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Nominations for the Dale Taunton Helping Hands Award are now being accepted for any resident of the Pierce City R-6 School District.

This award is named in honor of the late Dale Taunton, of Pierce City, who lost his life during the May 4, 2003, tornado, helping save the lives of others at the cost of his own.

The award was created to recognize and continue cultivation of the spirit of "neighbor helping neighbor."

Letters of nomination will be accepted through March 23 and should include a narrative of how the individual has helped an individual or the community and the reason the writer feels the person should win the award.

Letters may be mailed to: The Dacy Foundation, 211 N. Myrtle St., Pierce City, MO 65723.

All nominees will receive a letter notifying them of their nomination. A committee will narrow the list to three finalists who will be honored guests at the Pierce City Community Banquet to be held on April 30 where the award will be presented.

For more information, contact Julie Johnson at 476-2323 or 235-2540.
