The Purdy Eagles advanced to the semi-finals of the Miller Invitational Tournament Thursday night with a 78-66 victory over Sarcoxie.
The Eagles jumped out to a 26-15 lead in the first quarter and cruised into halftime with a 43-20 advantage. Each team scored 19 points in the third period, and Sarcoxie outpaced Purdy 27-16 in the fourth quarter.
"In the first half, we played as well as we have all year," said Purdy coach Tommy Egan. "We executed, shot the ball well and did a good job finding the open man. We are still turning the ball over way too much and need to have better shot selection for the duration of the game. Tonight was definitely a step in the right direction."
Scoring for Purdy were: Devon Bennett, 20; Alex Haworth, 19; Drew Williams, 14; Cody Hall, 9; Garen Nelson, 6; Glen Scott and Cameron Terry, 4 each; and Brent Cornman, 2.
Purdy continues play at Miller tonight against Galena. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m.
