"We looked sluggish on defense last night, but after the long week, I expected that our legs may be tired," said Pierce City coach Tiffany Dirks. "We executed our offense very well last night. Greenfield is a good team that has been well coached. I was happy with our first conference win, and we look to continue to improve throughout this month."
The Lady Eagles led 14-13 after one quarter of play and outperformed the Lady Tigers 21 to 16 in the second period to lead 35-29 at halftime. Pierce City pulled away, outscoring Greenfield 19-11 in the third period and 13-10 in the fourth.
Scoring for Pierce City were: Krishna Merriman, 28; Megan Golubski, 14, including four treys; Bailey Hayward, 9; Kaelyn Osborn, 8; Christine Younker, 6; and Becca Hatfield, 2.
Pierce City hosts Purdy on Friday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
