The enterprising and compassionate young woman created 50 blankets and was able to present them to Joplin area children in conjunction with Eastmorland Elementary School's Christmas program on Dec. 15, 2011.
Eastmorland Principal Heather Surbrugg compiled a list of names and sent a special invitation to the students to come to the library to receive their blankets. Sydney was able to personally hand out around 38 blankets. The rest will be distributed to students by Principal Surbrugg.
"It was so special," reported Sydney's mom, Tina. "Sydney did a wonderful job and received lots of smiles from some very special childrena and their families."
The blankets cost Sydney around $8 each to make and were double-sided with one side cotton and the other made with a soft, fuzzy fabric.
Back in the fall of last year, Sydney, calling herself the Blanket Diva, announced her intentions to make blankets for Joplin young people. Local individuals and businesses contributed to the campaign and helped make the project possible. Walmart in Monett donated 40 yards of fleece for the blankets.
"I appreciate all the donations," said Sydney.
Sydney is the daughter of Tina and Chris Sebastian, of Monett.
