Elsie Allen, age 87, of Monett, Mo., formerly of Pierce City, Mo., passed away on Wednesday evening, Jan. 4, 2012 at the Ozarks Community Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Elsie was born on April 7, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, Mo., the daughter of the late Rodney Dale Kirby and Sarah Jane (Williams) Kirby.
Elsie graduated from Mt. Vernon High School with the Class of 1943. She has been a lifetime resident of this area having resided in Pierce City for over 30 years before moving to Monett. Her and her husband owned and operated Allen's Pump Service. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Aurora and had a great passion for reading, watching birds, knitting, crossword puzzles, playing the piano and genealogy.
|On March 25, 1946 in Lawrence County, Mo., Elsie Kirby and William Harrison Allen were united in marriage. To this union three children were born. Elsie is survived by her husband, William, of Monett; one son: Chester Allen and his wife, Beth, of Asheville, N.C.; one daughter: Brenda Conn and her husband, Mark, of Aurora, Mo.; one sister: Luella Baker, of Alameda, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.||Elsie was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Allen; one brother, William Kirby; one sister, Ruth Glidewell; and one great-granddaughter. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all those that knew her.|
Memorial services for Mrs. Allen will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bruce Larson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lawrence County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
