Shirley Jean Horton, age 74, of Monett, passed away on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. She was born on Feb. 19, 1937 in Purdy, Mo., the daughter of the late Olen and Edwinna (Inman) Long.
She was united in marriage on Feb. 15, 1953 in Monett to Clarence "Junior" Horton, he preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2010.
She was retired from Oxford Health Care and Horton Rentals. She was a member of the Easyville Methodist Church and attended Chapel of Grace Church in Monett. Along with her late husband she was a founding member of the Monett Sportsmen's League.
Shirley is survived by two daughters: Sharon Ridenour, Monett, and Rebecca Vineyard, Monett; a special little girl: Alaina Woods; one brother: Bill Long, Monett; one sister: Phyllis Burton, Eagle Rock; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, Olen and Edwinna and her husband, Junior.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Chapel in Monett with Rev. Jimmy Copley and Rev. Ronnie Howerton officiating. Burial will follow services at Bethel Cemetery near Monett.
