Of the 17 people attended the course, 15 represented area fire departments plus two sergeants from the Monett Police Department.
The course covered safety and the training function, legal and ethical considerations, effective interpersonal communication, principles of learning, student attributes and behaviors and instructional delivery. Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to apply for certification testing which will provide them with state and national recognition and college credit.
"The Division of Fire Safety allows only a select group of entities to teach recognized fire instructor courses," said Lt. Shane Anderson, Monett Fire Department training officer. "We are honored to be included in this group."
Attending the course were Mickey Wilson, Tommy Garner, Kyle Moore, Tony Hinkle, Jeff Owens, Jerry Harrison, Dennis Camp, Lance Allcock, Curt Mooneyham, Clifford Shipman, Adam Couch, John Wegrzyn, Todd Wood, L.J. Harris, Clyde Lobb, Taylor Lombard and Josh Kennedy.
Anderson said goal of the program is to get at least one certified instructor in each area department to conduct continuing education courses for firefighters.
