Bi-county residents are invited this week to participate in a special Non-Event Gala, sponsored by the Monett/Purdy affiliate of Habitat for Humanity.
Invitations to this unique "non-event" have been mailed to individuals and businesses in Barry and Lawrence counties.
"This is a perfect event for those who are weary of holiday party-going," said Rev. Ron Stair, who serves as Habitat president. "To take part in this non-event, you don't have to get dressed up. You don't have to hire a babysitter. You don't even have to leave home.
"When you receive your invitation, just sit down in the comfort of your home or office and write out a check to support the building of the next Habitat house," said Stair. "A return envelope is enclosed with every invitation."
The Habitat Non-Event Gala is co-sponsored by International Dehydrated Foods, UMB Bank, Cox Monett Hospital and EFCO, a Pella Company. The event is a fun way to encourage support for the next Habitat build.
"As we begin a new calendar year, we encourage everyone who receives an invitation to stay at home and spend an evening with your family," said Bill Van Eaton, Habitat publicity chairman. "Don't put on a fancy dress or tuxedo. Don't rent a limousine. Just take a minute to send a check to the Monett/Purdy Habitat for Humanity.
"Your contribution is tax deductible and you will be giving a hand up to families who are willing to work to improve their living conditions," Van Eaton said. "We hope to raise $10,000 to help fund the next Habitat project, which will make affordable house available to needy families."
