PCHS girls open tournament with victory over Neosho Lady Wildcats

The Pierce City Lady Eagles used a 20-3 run enroute to defeating Neosho 53-26 in the opening round of the Neosho Holiday Tournament.

"I am proud of the way our girls played tonight," said Pierce City coach Tiffany Dirks. "Neosho is a quality program and we did the thing we needed to do to win."

The Lady Eagles held a 13-9 lead at the end of the first quarter of play, and used an 8-1 run to open a 22-11 advantage midway through the second quarter to lead 28-13 at halftime

Pierce City outscored the Lady Wildcats 19-8 in the third quarter. Neosho could never get closer than 11 points for the remainder of the game as Pierce City rolled to victory.

Scoring for Pierce City were: Kaelyn Osborn, 15 points; Christine Younker, 13 points; Krishna Merriman and Megan Golubski, 11 points each; and Becca Hatfield, 2 points.

The Lady Eagles will face Bentonville, Ark., today at 4 p.m.
