The East Newton Patriots defeated the Pierce Eagles 66-39 to open the Southwest Holiday Tournament on Monday. The game marked the third time each team had squared off in the past four weeks with the Patriots winning all three meetings.

"We have got to play better," said Pierce City head coach Matt Street. "We have had an up and down season and tonight we went down."

East Newton dominated on the boards and in the scoring column. The Patriots out-rebounded the Eagles 38-11 for the game and outscored Pierce City in every quarter. East Newton scored 46 points in the paint

The Patriots led 18-7 at the end of the first period and cruisd into intermission with a 30-17 lead. East Newton grew the lead in the third quarter outperforming Pierce City 21-11.

"I thought we had good practices this week and were prepared to play this game," said Street. "The key for us it to put the loss out of our minds and focus on our night opponent on Tuesday."

East Newton was led in scoring by Tucker Anderson with 22 points and Andrew Hightower with 11 points.

Scoring for Pierce City were: Wayne Joe Sooter, 16 points; Kole Kelley, 12 points; Colin Garner, 5 points; Zack Hyde, 4 points; and Colton Drollinger, 2 points.

Pierce City advances to play Bentonville, Ark., today at 4 p.m.
