She and husband Alvin were lifelong farmers in the Freistatt community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; her brother: Melvin Bracht; and sister: Dora Koenemann.
She was active in the Ladies Aid quilting and Braille Group of Trinity Lutheran Church. She also was a Red Cross volunteer and provided assistance in Disaster Relief for several years.
Velma was very knowledgeable regarding handmade quilts. For many years she and daughter Jan enjoyed making various crafts out of old quilts and linens and selling them at local craft shows and bazaars. She was very proud that each of her children obtained college degrees.
Velma is survived by her three children: Gary and wife, Chara Koeneman, of Shawnee, Kan.; Dennis and wife, Dianne Koenemann, of Manchester, Mo.; and Janice Koenemann, of Springfield, Mo. In addition, she is survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her sister-in-law, Evelyn Bracht, of Freistatt also survives. She leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Velma will be greatly missed by all who knew her but will not be forgotten by all who loved her.
