Seventh and eighth grade students at Monett Middle School conducted a contest to deck the halls for a good cause this holiday season. The Middle School Student Council sponsored the event that involved students purchasing "links" to a paper chain.
Funds from the three-week event were used to purchase gifts for eight underprivileged students in the district.
As of Friday, at the end of the contest, eighth grade students won the contest with a total of $382.27 raised for the effort. Seventh grade students raised a total of $314.49. With additional donations from staffers, this year's fundraiser netted $883.02.
This is the second year middle school students have participated in the fundraising effort.
