Farmers and landowners in southwest Missouri are invited to attend the 88th annual Lawrence County Soils and Crops Conference from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at the Southwest Research Center located on Highway H southwest of Mt. Vernon.
"This long-running conference continues to support farmers as they strive for profitability in today's farm economy," said Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension agronomy specialist headquartered in Galena. "A committee of Lawrence County farmers planned the conference and topics that should be of interest to both livestock and crop producers in 2012."
Topics this year will focus on forage management, including post-drought forage recovery, using balage as a harvest and storage tool and how to manage for the fescue endophyte.
There is no charge to attend but attendees must call the Lawrence County Extension Center at 417-466-3102 by Jan. 2, 2012, to order their dinner.
The meal will be provided courtesy of Mid-Missouri Bank of Mt. Vernon, Ozark Electric Cooperative, the Southwest Missouri Cattlemen's Association and the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce.
