Monett youth wrestling update

The Monett Middle School wrestling Cubs, pictured above, took fourth place in the 11-team field at Seneca. The Monett Youth Wrestling Club (MYWC) sent 26 wrestlers to participate in the annual WildCat X-Treme Holiday tournament in Neosho. Seventeen Cub wrestlers placed at the open tournament.

Tournamnet champions were: Blaine Garver, Division 2, 70 pounds; Tanner Wright, Division 2, 80 pounds; Karter Brink, Division 3, 60 pounds; Gunnar Bradley, Division 3, 75 pounds; Wesley Merriman, Division 3, 115 pounds; Dillon Welch, Division 5, 105 pounds; and Ian Meyer, Division 5, 155 pounds.

Taking second place for Monett were: Ian Jackson, Division 2, 115 pounds; Sean Jastal, Division 5, 105 pounds; and Eric Welch, Division 5, 115 pounds.

Third place finishers for the Cubs were: Harrison Merriman, Division 2, 90 pounds; Joseph Semerad, Division 3, 65 pounds; Josh Bahl, Division 4, 80 pounds; Hunter Pyle, Division 4, 130 pounds; and Gabe Pryor, Division 5, 190 pounds.

Two Monett wrestlers placed fourth on the day. They were: Matthew Bahl, Division 3, 65 pounds; and Spencer Bryant, Division 3, 70 pounds.

Seneca tournament

The MYWC Cubs finished fourth in the 11-team Seneca Junior High Wrestling tournament last weekend.

Monett scored 138.5 points and had one individual champion Garret Bradley, who went 5-0 with three pins, one technical fall and a major decision.

Others placing for Monett were: second, Sean Jastal, Eric Welch, Derrick Peterson and Brain Rodriguez; third, Ian Meyer, Ben Cole and Austin Lamastus; fourth, Nathan Hall, Jorden Henson, Denver Williams and Aaron Howard.

Seneca took home the team championship, scoring 345.5 points. Lebanon and Joplin North followed them in the team standings.

The Monett Youth Wrestling Club will travel to Diamond this weekend.
