The Monett Cubs wrestling team took third place in the 10-team Carl Junction Classic on Saturday.
"We had a great week," said Monett coach Daryl Bradley. "We won two duals Thursday night, and we carried that momentum into Saturday. "I feel that we could have won the CJ tournament if we had our full line-up," continued Bradley. "The young kids are stepping up and performing at a high level. I am very pleased with the effort the kids are giving. We will continue to work hard to reach our goals."
Willard finished first with 236.5 points. Carthage placed second, scoring 217 points. Monett achieved 178.5 points. Carl Junction was fourth, tallying 153 points.
Three Cub wrestlers, Chase Brennan, Levi Neely and Chris Renteria, won individual championships.
Dominick Witherow finished in second place. Matt Wentz took third, and Brice Watson and Kedrick Brink finished fourth in their respective weight classes.
The Monett junior varsity traveled to the Harrisonville JV Tournament.
The Cubs' Michael Renfro, Corry Skipper, Ben Morris, Jordan Hall and Jacob Negre took first place honors.
Dalton Dunn and Keanu Reed finished second. Tyler Liggett, Jason Kurima and Wyatt Rook each earned third place honors, and Jaron Beeson finished fourth in his respective weight class.
The wrestling Cubs will be in action at the Springfield Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 at Parkview High School.
