Toys for Tots drive

Friday, December 9, 2011

The Monett Jaycees Toys for Tots campaign is underway. Toys are being collected for distribution to children in less fortunate families for the Christmas holiday. The Jaycees project has been in place for approximately 80 years. According to Randi Willhite, chairman of the drive, collection boxes have, been placed at Aaron's, Big Baldy's BBQ, Modern Variety, US Bank, UMB Bank and Bank of America. "We'd like to receive new or gently used toys," said Willhite. "All donations will be distributed by Linn Thornton in his annual Christmas effort, so the toys will all stay in Barry and Lawrence counties." Collections will continue until Dec. 20. Toys for Tots is the Monett Jaycees' main holiday season effort after Thanksgiving baskets. Hundreds of toys are distributed every year through the program. Shoppers purchasing toys for the toy drive at Modern Variety will receive a 10 percent discount. [Times Photo by Lisa Craft]
