Shanna DeWater, of Springfield has been selected to receive the State of Missouri Excellence Award from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
DeWater was nominated and selected because of her activities and efforts that are improving advanced practice registered nursing in Missouri. She will be formally presented with the award at the Academy's National Conference to be held in June 2012 in Orlando, Fla.
DeWater lives in Springfield with her husband, Scott Dewater, and daughter, Jessica, son, Chase and step-son, Morgan. Her parents are Larry and Nisha Wise, of Purdy.
DeWater works at a primary care clinic in Mt. Vernon for the Veteran's Administration where she is a nurse practitioner. She has approximately 1,000 veteran patients and will graduate with her doctorate degree in May 2012.
She serves on the executive board of the Advanced Practice Nurses of the Ozarks (APNO) organization where she is currently the secretary. She will be president-elect in 2012. DeWater is the scholarship committee chairperson for APNO, sits on the conference planning committee for APNO, sits on the Missouri Council of Nurse Practitioners, sits on the Missouri Special Interest Group of Nurse Practitioners and is a Team Summit stake holder. She is also involved with the Missouri Coalition for Nursing and the Center for Champion Nursing. DeWater is also the Project Graduation chairperson for her daughter's senior class at Willard.
