Home Grown Books expands to Monett

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Denali Dreams Gallery and Coffee Shop has partnered with Home Grown Books to showcase the works of local authors, and will host a book signing from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the store, located at 316 E. Broadway in Monett.

"Homegrown Books is a project that provides authors the venue to get their self-published books into circulation," said Shaun Bennett, owner of Denali Dreams. "All the authors displayed here have connections to the Ozarks."

Homegrown Books promotes local authors who have had difficulty in getting national bookstore chains interested in stocking self-published material.

Homegrown Books will display and sell books inside this local coffee shop, offering the shopper the rare chance to discover new talent and read books not found in traditional bookstores. The effort began with a display at the Keen Bean coffeehouse in Mt. Vernon.

Attending the event will be Harriet Ford, author of "Frankly Madame" and "Shadow in the Rain;" Sandy Shell, author of "Temptation with Luggage;" Cathy White, author of "Maury the Mouse," a children's fiction book; Ellen Mitchell, author of "Death can be Beautiful;" Betty Craker Henderson, a Monett author who has penned "Mysteries of the Ozarks," "From Trash to Treasure: the Evolution of an Ozarks Junkyard," and "Child Support;" Kathleen Stamate, author of "Need a Name?" and CC Brown, the pseudonym of Schyrlet Cameron, Carolyn Craig and Kathy Brown, who together wrote "Dark Side."

Authors will be on hand to autograph their books for local shoppers on Saturday.

There are many talented writers in the Monett area. Having a place to showcase their work is a wonderful opportunity for the authors and the community.

Chyrlet Cameron, originator and main brain of Home Grown Books, had a great idea for promoting self published authors in local outlets. There are a surprising number of talented story tellers in Southwest Missouri and you owe it to yourselves to read their work. You'll be pleased and surprised!

Thank you for promoting local authors. It is difficult to find legitimate avenues for advertising that will reach into the lives of many people, those whom we already know and those whom we wish to acquaint ourselves of, and the internet, newspapers and magazines are all such important vehicles for that reason. As authors we really appreciate any and all efforts your publications make to help in this endeavor.
