Two people hurt in I-44 crash

Two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash that occurred yesterday on Interstate 44 about 10 miles east of Mt. Vernon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 7:18 a.m. when the driver of a 2005 Dodge Durango, Johnnie J. Schofield, 31, of Carl Junction, lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the road and overturned. The Durango was towing a trailer that jackknifed.

Two passengers in the truck, Austin L. Davis, 22, of Carl Junction, and Jimmy W. Moler, 40, of Webb City, were taken by private vehicle to Freeman Hospital in Joplin with minor injuries.

None of the parties involved were wearing a seat belt.

Other crashes

* A Crane man was injured in a two-vehicle crash yesterday at Farm Road 2005, four miles south of Aurora. The crash occurred at 10:25 a.m. when the driver of a 1989 Cadillac Deville, Billy Gaskey, 56, of Crane, crossed the center of the roadway on a curve and struck a 2000 Chevrolet Astrovan, driven by Jess W. Cypret, 34, also of Crane. Gaskey was taken by ambulance to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with moderate injuries. Cypret was wearing a seat belt.
