The Monett High School speech team competed at the Clever Invitational on Oct. 29. In a field of 15 schools, Monett squad placed first.
The following students advanced to finals and placed: Emma Verstrate, first, and Kale Turner, third, in oratory; Reece Johnson, second, in extemporaneous speaking; Laramie Ellis, first place, Kara Hopkins, second place, and Hannah Kingrey, third place, in prose; Reece Johnson, first place, and Jonathan Schliem, fourth place, in radio; Laramie Ellis, first place, in poetry; Andrew Brown, third place, Ashleigh Hill, fourth place, and Sally Ferrell, sixth place, in storytelling; Andrew Gilliam and Brendon George, third place, Laramie Ellis and Kole Eden, fifth place, Sabrina Bennett and Kara Hopkins, sixth place, and Matt Murphy and Hannah Kingrey, seventh place, in duo interpretation; Zeina Masri and Kendra DePriest, second place, Kole Eden and Brendon George, fifth place, and Matt Murphy and Jacob Schmidly, sixth place, in improvised duet; and Zeina Masri, second place, in dramatic interpretation.
The Neosho Novice Debate Tournament was held on Oct. 21 and 22.
The following students placed: Alex Schmitt and Kyler Simkins, 11th place, in public forum debate and Tom Younker, third place in Lincoln Douglas debate.
