Jerry was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on Nov. 1, 1936, to Joseph and Mary (Lynch) McCaffrey.
Jerry moved to Monett in 1952 and was a graduate of Monett High School in 1954. He was employed with Vaisey-Bristol Shoe Company which later became Jumping-Jacks Shoes. He served in many positions and became chief executive officer of Jumping-Jacks. In his various positions and over many years he provided footwear for children of need in Monett and the surrounding area. He retired after 50 years of service in the shoe industry. His duties required him to travel to 29 countries and 49 states over the 50 years.
Jerry served in the Missouri National Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post #91. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the National Shoe Travelers Association. He served on the Monett School Board for nine years and multiple terms on the Monett Chamber of Commerce Board. At the time of his death he was serving as a Board Member of United Missouri Bank - Monett and had been a Board Member since 1985.
Jerry enjoyed time with his family, golfing, fishing, horse racing and traveling.
On May 7, 1966, he married Margaret C. Carlin in Monett. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage together.
He is survived by his wife, Meg, of the home; three sons: Mark McCaffrey, of Monett, Michael McCaffrey (Leslie), of Lake of the Ozarks, Patrick McCaffrey (Cyndi), of Springfield, two daughters, Missy Wrobleski (Rodney), of Monett, and Kimberly Ballay, of Monett; grandchildren: Malia, Monica, and Jerry McCaffrey, Angela Tymeson and Ryan Wrobleski, Makinley McCaffrey, Abbi and Andrew Harris, Carlin, Megan and Mason Ballay, and five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brothers and sisters: Joan Gavin, of Hackettstown, NJ, Joe McCaffrey, of Newark, Del., Jack McCaffrey (Pat), of Monett, Joyce Tinklepaugh, of Monett, Jim McCaffrey, of Monett, Jean Heinly (Ken), of Mesquite, Nev., Jay McCaffrey, of Monett, Jeff McCaffrey (Diana), of Cape Fair, and Joel McCaffrey (Carolyn), of Monett.
Prayer service will be Friday, November 25, 2011, at 6 p.m. with visitation to follow at 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Monett, with Father Paul McLoughlin officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Monett.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic School.
