Young and old honor local veterans

Monday, November 21, 2011

St. Lawrence Catholic School in Monett honored United States military veterans and service men and women on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. with a gathering around the flagpole. Students sang patriotic songs, raised the flag and remembered veterans in silence while Taps was played. Following the ceremony, veterans were interviewed by fifth and sixth grade students and enjoyed refreshments in the church hall. A Wall of Honor was decorated with red and blue streamers and white stars. Each star was filled out by a student to honor a veteran from their family. This family activity helped students realize the importance of veterans and how many family and friends have served their country through military service. [Order this photo]

Benchmark Healthcare of Monett paid tribute to its veterans on Veterans Day. Veterans were honored by the members of Monett VFW Post #4207 and JROTC students from the Southwest Area Career Center in Monett. Those honored for their service were: Eleanor Berger, Oren Henderson and Bill Schuetz who served in the Navy; James Fuller, Lawrence Nimsick and Charles Taylor who served in the Army; and Robert Main who served in the Marines. Activity Director Daralyn Horn honored each veteran by presenting them with a long stem rose bearing a red, white and blue ribbon. Horn spoke about those who have given their lives to serve the United States as well as their families. Guests enjoyed punch and cake decorated to resemble the United States Flag. [Order this photo]
