Shirley Brandt gives program at Dorcas Ladies Aid meeting

Friday, November 18, 2011

The Dorcas Ladies Aid met in the fellowship hall of Trinity Lutheran School on Nov. 3. The meeting was called to order by Judy Lehde, president, with 19 members and one guest present.

Shirley Brandt read a devotion from a Thanksgiving and Advent Devotions booklet that was written by members in 1981. Brandt selected the one written by Erna Schoen entitled "Follow Jesus." Following the devotion, the group sang "Oh, That the Lord Would Guide My Way" accompanied by Brandt, pianist.

The Mite Ingathering was led by Nadine Obermann, and the song "Awake, Thou Spirit, Who Didst Fire" was sung.

The program was presented by Brandt with assistance from Lehde. The program was a modern day parable of the Good Samaritan.

Evelyn Bracht stated that Edith Harmon would be sitting in the Narthex on Sunday taking names of volunteers to set up or wash communion wear for the 2012 year. Christian Growth will have the worship and program for December.

Lena Bremer reminded everyone that the annual ingathering of food and money would be on Thanksgiving Day. The monetary gifts will be divided equally between Good Shepherd, Kansas City, and Trinity, St. Louis. The next quilting workday is tentatively set for Jan. 9, 2012.

Connie Prater purchased a wreath and nativity set for the Ingathering at the fall rally in Carthage. Following the rally, they will be given to Immanuel Lutheran LWML in Joplin for members who lost homes in the May tornado.

Get well cards were signed for Nora Lampe and Esther Holle. A birthday card was signed for Anne Telschow. There are also boxes of Christmas and Thanksgiving cards available in the ladies aid cabinet.

Judy Krueger made two Baptismal napkins for the newly baptized members. Ethel Helmkamp gave the booklet "Lead Me Lord Through Motherhood" to the parents of Sophya Schoen. Shirley Brandt reported on the visit with the shut-ins.

The birthday song was sung for Judy Krueger, Anne Telschow, Eleanor Smidt and Evelyn Bracht.

Members voted on the monthly gifts to be given in 2012 by the Ladies Aid.

The president thanked Grace Doss for co-hosting with her. The meeting closed with the singing of "Now Thank We All My God."
