Three people were injured Monday in a four-car collision on Interstate 44 one and a half miles west of Halltown.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 1:30 a.m. when the driver of a 2008 Toyota Scion, Petar G. Kuzmanov, 23, of Willard, ran into the median and lost control of the vehicle. The car returned to the highway and overturned, sliding on its top.
The Scion was hit by a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Jeremy L. Hopkins, 26, of Cowden, Ill., and the Scion then struck the bridge. The Scion was then struck by a 2009 Dodge Caliber, driven by Amy S. Rhodes, 21, of Herrick, Ill.
The Scion struck the bridge again and was finally hit by a 2007 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by Larisa Morosanu, 24, of Chicago, Ill.
Kuzmanov was airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. Two passengers in his vehicle, Hristo K. Hristov, 25, and Lauren R. Weiner, 20, both of Springfield, were taken by ambulance to St. John's Hospital in Springfield with moderate injuries.
Hopkins, Rhoades and Morosanu were wearing seat belts; Kuzmanov and Hristov were not. It is not known if Weiner was wearing a seat belt.
* Three people were injured Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Highway E three miles south of Powell. The wreck occurred at 10:30 a.m. when the driver of a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck, Jacob A. Taylor, 21, of Fairview, traveled off the right side of the roadway and vaulted into a driveway edge. Two passengers in the vehicle, Bruce A. Bruton, 20, and Kongmeng Vang, 28, were airlifted to Freeman West Hospital with serious injuries. Taylor was taken by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital with minor injuries. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
* A Michigan man was injured yesterday when he swerved to avoid another vehicle on Interstate 44 one-quarter mile east of Halltown. The wreck occurred at 11:05 p.m. when the driver of a 2005 Freightliner, Alfred Pergjoni, 36, of Macomb Township, Mich., swerved to avoid another vehicle, ran off the roadway and overturned. A passenger in the truck, Arvin Dhrof, 56, was taken to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with moderate injuries. Dhrof was not wearing a seat belt; Pergjoni was.
