Berniece Medlin, age 99, of Monett, MO, beloved teacher and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Nov. 10, 2011, with her family by her side.

Berniece was born in Monett on March 29, 1912, the daughter of Delmar W. and Mable (Combe) Medlin. She lived her entire life in the Monett area. She was a graduate of Purdy High School and Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield. She enjoyed teaching elementary school for 46 years. She retired from the Monett R-1 School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lydia Circle and U.M.W. and served as a volunteer for Loaves and Fishes for many years. She was also a member of Barry County Retired Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma, and a life-time member of the National Retired Teacher's Association.

She is survived by one brother: Bill Medlin, Sr. and his wife, Elner; three nephews: Rod Anderson and his wife, Janice, Bill Medlin, Jr. and his wife, Marie, and Rick Medlin; one niece: Janet Hyde and her husband, Jim; as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Millikan and her husband, Clark; and Dorothy Anderson and her husband, Howard, and one brother, Kenneth Medlin and his wife, Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Monett. Reverend Paul Lanning will officiate. Interment will be in the Waldensian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Loaves & Fishes and Hospice Compassus in care of Buchanan Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
