Organizers are gearing up for the 2012 American Cancer Society's Relay for Life kickoff in Monett, slated for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the First United Methodist Church, located at 1600 Central Ave. in Monett.
This year's activities will include the ever-popular Queen Contest, where teams select their best man to represent their group or organization.
A variety of activities are also planned leading up to the annual night-long Relay, which will again be held at the football field on Friday, May 11, starting at 5 p.m.
"This year's goal is $80,000," said Helen Ruscha, event co-chair. "Teams will have until Aug. 1, 2012, to raise funds for this annual event and have those totals count toward this year's goal."
Four teams have already taken advantage of online registration for next year's event. Information on the annual event may be found at www.relayforlife.org/monettmo.
Last year, organizers fell short of their $85,000 goal, raising a total of $72,799.35.
"I think the economy has something to do with it," Ruscha said. "We are hoping to raise more this year."
Informational packets will be distributed at the kick-off celebration on Tuesday, and all interested teams and individuals are encouraged to attend the meeting.
