"The Barry County 911 Board is very disappointed by the latest move by the Monett City Council (in voting to approve a resolution officially opposing the two proposed sales tax issues). If Monett wants to have their own 911 system, that is their decision. We have no problem with that. We have never wanted to stand in the way of them running their own system. In fact, we have offered to assist them any way possible, including covering the City of Monett for E911 services.
"We live in a democracy. In 2005, voters of Barry County voted overwhelmingly for a county-wide 911 system. Because of this we do not understand why Monett's council is taking a path that harms the future of Barry County 911.
"The Barry County 911 Board remains committed to a county-wide 911 system, per the voted intention of the citizens of Barry County. The Barry County 911 system has saved lives for the past four years and will continue to do so if we can receive the support for our tax initiative on Tuesday, Nov. 8."
