Area high schools will host luncheons and programs in honor of local veterans next week.
Monett High School will host its appreciation event beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 in the gymnasium.
Both the Junior ROTC Color Guard and the Monett Student Council will participate in the honors assembly. Guest speaker will be Purple Heart recipient SSG Paul Schmitz, Jr.
Pierce City High School will host a veterans appreciation luncheon at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10 in the high school cafeteria with an assembly following at 1:45 p.m. in the gymnasium.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to the high school office at 476-2515 and leave their name, branch of service and information on whether their spouse will be attending.

Purdy High School ceremonies honoring local veterans will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.
The ceremony includes the Junior ROTC Color Guard and a special guest speaker. There will also be a slide show presentation.
Verona High School will also host appreciation ceremonies by honoring local veterans at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 in the gym.
Members of the Junior ROTC Color Guard will be participating in that event.
Wheaton High School will honor veterans with ceremonies beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 in the high school gymnasium.
The Junior ROTC Color Guard will be serving at that event.
The program will consist of the playing of "Taps," followed by a reading of the history of the song. A presentation on the folding of the American Flag and the symbolism behind each fold will also take place. The flag will then be presented to a veteran.
Mike Austin, a teacher and coach at Wheaton, will be the guest speaker. Austin served from 1988 to 1992 in Desert Storm.
On Friday evening, veterans and members of the Wheaton community are invited to take part in an appreciation dinner at 5 p.m. in the Wheaton Family and Consumer Sciences classroom.
Following the meal, presentations will be made to veterans honoring their many contributions.
